San Francisco Bay Area:
Rehab Centers for Injured Wildlife

You see a baby opossom by
itself or a your cat catches, but doesn't kill, a bird - what
to do?
Fortunately, the Bay Area
has several wildlife rehabilitation centers that are licensed
by the state and federal governments to care for orphaned and
injured native wildlife, and to release the recovered animals
back into the wild. Here's information on several centers where
you can take an injured critter for care.

There's no charge for bringing
in an injured animal, but most wildlife centers are staffed by
trained volunteers and exist solely on donations. It's thoughtful
to make a contribution if you can.
Centers cannot care for injured
pets, exotic animals, farm animals, domestic ducks and geese,
and some non-native birds - mainly starlings and English sparrows.
Several centers have excellent
information available on their websites about preventing wildlife
injury and about how to care for a bird or animal before you
deliver it to a wildlife center.
