Families and the Economy
Not sure how much to tell your children about the current financial crisis or whether to talk to them about it at all? Here are tips from some financial experts who are also parents:

Tips and resources for parents from the American Academy of Pediatrics

General tips from pediatricians and child development experts on helping children cope with stressful events in the news:

Children are sensitive to parents' feelings of anxiety or despair. Your children need to see you as strong, capable, and protective. Talking about future events in hopeful, positive terms can help children have faith in the future.

Don't overwhelm young children with too much television coverage. If children want to watch the news, watch with them and ask for their reactions. Don't be afraid to answer their questions honestly.

Keep to your regular family routines. Everyday routines are especially reassuring to children in times of stress.
