Bay Area Resources for Gifted Children

Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP) at UC Berkeley. Summer program for grades K-12. Classes fill very early; apply as soon as course schedules are available, usually in January/February.

Academic Talent Search at CSU Sacramento. Summer and weekend courses for highly able, motivated sixth through ninth graders at four sites: Sac State, North Tahoe Middle School, University of the Pacific and Yuba College. Also take a look at the Accelerated College Entrance (ACA) page which lets students enroll in CSUSacramento courses while still in high school, and the Super Saturday page about weekend courses for grades 6-9 with a concurrent seminar for parents called "Guiding the Gifted Child." Baywood Learning Center. Resource center in Oakland for emotional and educational support of gifted children and their parents. Services include parent support groups (open to the public), enrichment programs and classes for homeschoolers, speakers, seminars, testing clinics for professionals specializing in gifted populations. Education Program for Gifted Youth at Stanford Computer-based courses in mathematics and mathematical sciences through the Stanford Continuing Studies Program.

GATE programs at local schools: programs vary substantially from one school district to another. The school principal or superintendent of schools should be able to provide information.

Foothill College Youth & Children's Summer Programs. Program has been canceled due to budget restraints.

Johns Hopkins University, Institute for the Academic Advancement of Youth Summer programs for academically talented students, at colleges and schools throughout the U.S. Two programs for grade 7 and above; students qualify through SAT scores. MENSA Gifted Children Program (GCP), Bay Area chapter For ages 4-17, living anywhere in the Bay Area. Lectures for parents; tours, demonstrations, and other events for kids by age group.
