General Information and Demographics

Parents' Press is an award-winning, independently owned publication that has been serving parents in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 25 years. We have twice been named the best parenting paper in the U.S. by Parenting Publications of America.

Each issue features an extensive calendar of family events, along with lively, authoritative articles on parenting concerns from pregnancy through adolescence.

Parents' Press distributes a minimum of 75,000 copies each month through more than 1,400 outlets in San Francisco, San Rafael, Walnut Creek, Concord, Fremont, Berkeley, Oakland, and the suburban areas of Marin, Contra Costa County, Alameda County, and southern Solano County.

Outlets include major supermarkets, children's stores, hospitals, schools, preschools, and libraries.

Readership is estimated at 115,000 readers per month, with Parents' Press reaching one in every three families with young children in its market area.

School Marketplace and Family Marketplace from $110 per month. Only 3-month and 12-month contracts are available for Marketplace ads; no one-time placement.

No changes are allowed in Marketplace ads during the life of the contract; any changes must be made the the start of a new or renewed contract.

Guaranteed placement is available on a first-come, first-served basis for an additional 10%. Ads must be a quarter-page or larger to qualify for guaranteed placement.

Color charges (camera-ready ads). 4-color, $500.

Four-color is available only for quarter-page (vertical), half-page (2-column vertical or 4-column horizontal), junior page, and full page ads, on a first-come, first served basis. Four-color ads usually appear on the centerfold or back pages.

Agency rates (commissionable) on request. You can e-mail us for agency rates.

Ad Production

Display advertising prices include free production for smaller ads where clients do not have the capacity to prepare their own materials. The free production includes one design and use of one logo or other graphic element. You will be provided with a proof and the opportunity to correct any typographical errors.

If you wish to work closely with a graphic artist on the production of your ad, your account exec will be happy to provide referrals to free-lance artists.

2 columns = 4-7/8 inches (29-1/2 picas)

3 columns = 7-1/2 inches (45 picas)

4 columns = 10 inches (60-1/2 picas)

1/16 page, horizontal = 2 col. wide x 1-3/4 inches high.

1/16 page, vertical = 1 col. wide x 3-3/4 inches high.

1/8 page = 2 col. wide x 3-3/4 inches high.

3/16 page, horizontal = 3 col. wide x 3-3/4 inches high.

3/16 page, vertical = 2 col. wide x 5-3/4 inches high.

Quarter page, vertical = 2 col. wide x 7-3/4 inches high.

Half page, horizontal = 4 col. wide x 7-3/4 inches high.

Half page, vertical = 2 col. wide x 15-3/4 inches high.

Half page, 3 col. = 3 col. wide x 9-3/4 inches high.

Junior page = 3 col. wide x 11-3/4 inches high.

Web Advertising

Advertising on the Parents' Press website is currently available only in conjunction with a display ad in the print edition. Current cost for a link from the Parents' Press home page to the advertiser's website is $100 for 3 months. Ask about rates for banner and button ads.

Please consult an advertising account executive for other website advertising possibilities, including ads on our sister site, parent-teen.com, which reaches an international audience of parents, teenagers, and preteens.

Deadlines

The deadline for display ads is normally between the 8th and the 10th of the prior month. Both space reservations and camera-ready art are due by this date, unless you have made special arrangements through your ad account exec.

If you are a first-time advertiser with Parents' Press, please contact us several days, at least, before the applicable deadline.

Credit Policies

Display advertising must be prepaid until credit is established. Ask your ad account exec for a credit application. Large corporations and institutions may submit their own credit information. (Businesses with no credit history will be considered for credit after at least six consecutive months of on-time prepayments.) Please be prepared to prepay at least the first month's advertising. We accept MasterCard, Visa, and American Express as well as checks and money orders.

After approval of credit, display advertising is billed on a net 30 basis.
